The Waiting IS The Hardest Part...

I should have had a blog posted hours ago. Still waiting for a link to go live. Ugh...

Not great with waiting....

Later, obviously.....

My Latest Real Estate Humour Column: Songwriter Fails

Now available for viewing online, my latest humour column tackles the minimal requirements for success in writing a real estate song.

Read it here!

I also interviewed Austin Texas singer songwriters Danny Schmidt & Carrie Elkin, along with Calgary acapella trio HOJA, for my Calgary Herald blog. Read that here.

Blog Like No One Is Reading...

Which may not be the case, btw - I see a bump back upwards in my site stats!

However, just like you should dance like no one is washing, or sink like no one is glistening, it can't hurt to just let it all out, whatever it might might, and blog like no one is reading.

If you are neurotic about stats as I am, that may not be such a great thing...

Holy Mackerel!

That is a common saying, or at least it used to be - probably not many younger folks use that phrase, but it did seem to be very prevalent once upon a time...

Which begs the question - why are mackerels holy? Which culture or religious group celebrates mackerels, and why not salmon, or swordfish? I know nothing really of the mackerel, but I know it is awfully hard to find in a 7-11, or even at a general grocers.

I must fin out more more about this holy fish.

Sorry, "find" :-)

I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing

In perfect harmony.

I however, do not know HOW to sing in perfect harmony. I don't even know how to sing in a shower.

Maybe I should stick to an easier goal, like teaching the world to singe, on a preset barbecue??

Maybe... something to think about, for sure...

Hello Monday - Can I Take A Raincheck?

Monday. The most forlorn of days. The day you arise to return to whatever it is you do every other day of the week, except for those blessed couple of restful days on the weekend.

Perhaps I haven't had enough coffee yet...

I will think upon that, as I try to wake up a bit  more...

Happy Sunday!

Want To Lose Readers? Talk About Your Health!

Interesting to note the graph above my posting page, here at

Since sharing that I've been hit with the relentless bug that seems to be most prevalent this cold and flu season, my graph looks like a mole trying to tunnel deep underground.

So, no sympathy with this crowd, eh?

Can't say as I blame you. I'd rather know that Kim Kardashian has an unsightly blemish of her left buttock, or read about Justin Bieber in the rainforest trying to pick out a new monkey companion.

Gotta have priorities...

Have a great weekend, y'all, my faithful tens of readers!!

Whoops! My Bad!

Hectic morning, completely forgot to blog before we ran out the door this morning!

I know, you're thinking HURRAH!!!

Well, sorry to disappoint you, here it today's post:

Hands Free, To Do What?

The Bluetooth hands-free feature of our vehicle has decided to give up the ghost, now that the Distracted Driving laws here in Alberta are getting some attention for not being severe or stiff enough. Wonderful...

Much as I despise those Buck Rogers earpiece hands-free devices, we broke down and bought one this weekend as a quick fix, until we can figure out what the problem is. I don't look forward to having to go to Starbucks now, and listen to jazz cds as I drive around, but what can you do? I also don't want a hefty fine.

Personally, I'm not a fan of idiots that are texting or reading emails while they drive, so I support as tough a law as we need to convince people to pay attention behind the wheel. Besides, how can you possibly drink a coffee, eat a breakfast sandwich, read your morning newspaper, surf the radio stations and do a bit of yoga and zen meditation if you're on the phone??

Priorities, people!!

Hopefully, Out Of The Woods

This cold or flu bug has been a persistent sucker, I'll give it that. Every time you think you've gotten it pushed back into the corner, it fills back up and knocks you on your a** again...

That said, I've tried to maintain some normalcy, attending as you know a few shows over the last week, and then crawling back to bed to try and get some reprieve. Today, I'm trying to get back to my day job, as I missed most of last week. We'll see how that goes.

It has been so misleading. Mrs. That Dan Guy has had it for almost three weeks, and was home again yesterday, as we had both spent the night hacking up air with our dry coughs. This morning, I've had lots of draining, but it feels up again so fast, that doesn't seem to help.

At least the head isn't pounding so much right now, I expect that delightful part of the ride may finally be over...

Well, onward and coughwards!

Artists' Collective Theatre Presents: The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia

Taking a look at one of the most disturbing societal taboos might not be for everyone's taste, but it did make for some captivating theatre last night.

Chicken Scratch

(Posted by weekend guest blogger Charlie Chicken...)

Poor Charlie!

Much like the rest of the Such Is Life household, this bug continues to linger long after it should have vamoosed.

In his place we dug into the archives, and found this classic "episode" of Chicken Scratch from:

Enjoy. We all hope to be back on our feet soon, aside from the limited excursions we are making into the outside world...

Still Biding Time...

As of just a few moments ago, my latest column had yet to post, so I hope that goes live soon - the event is Friday night!

In the meantime, I am heading back out into the world this morning, to my day job - for the first time in a week. This cold bug has been brutal. Mrs. That Dan Guy and I are still up all night hacking, but I have to go in for at least a few hours today.

I have heard that this is a hybrid bug, someone told me this is what the flu is this year. Regardless, I have already bumped one event that I was able to reschedule, and time is running out before I will have to set up a Vicks IV drip and just say "duck it"!!

It is so rare we are sick, but you can't dodge cold and flu season every year...

Replacement Post

Well, 11:38 AM, and the column I posted "elsewhere" still has yet to go live. So, I guess I'll be posting a link to that tomorrow morning.

So, here is a replacement blog post, as I am loathe to miss a day of posting something, anything - however silly that may be (in some people's opinions...).

Here we go.

Guess I should have thought of a topic before I came here half-cocked, looking to get off easy with a quick post...

Hey, look over there!

New CD, and Release Party

I had hoped to post this yesterday, but as I mentioned in what I did put in this space, the feature took some time to load online.

However, it is now up as of yesterday. Not sure if there are still tickets left for the CD launch, but follow the links to find out!

Read the Calgary Herald blog feature here.

A Slow Go To Post Today...

I will admit, I'm not a fan of the new posting procedures for my Calgary Herald blog. As a matter of fact, this post SHOULD have been a link to my feature today, which as of this moment still has yet to appear online.

I hope this changes moving forward, but for now, I get up with the birds, file a post, and then wait. And wait. And wait.

At least I'm home sick today, so it helps kill the time between nose blowing, head throbbing, and throat clearing..

Chicken Scratch

Things are rough in the Such Is Life household today folks. After avoiding Mrs. That Dan Guy's cold bug for 10 days, I have succumbed to the virus.

As has somebody else, who is apparently to sick to post today.

Therefore, I present a classic post of Chicken Scratch, from one of his other battles with the bug.

Off The Radar Today....

I am most likely going to be off the radar most of today, as I am out doing TWO interviews for upcoming Calgary Herald blogs and podcast features.

After a brief holiday break in the local entertainment calendar action, things are really ramping up - so I will post links once those columns go live!

More to come, busy busy busy!

My Unicorn Is Magnificent!

These corns on my big toe have grown so big, they now form one ginormous uni-corn - if they had a nail, I'd have six toes!

I should probably get that looked at....

Moby Duck

There he was, on the other side of the pond - big, white, and angry. The legendary albino duck, that ate my Pappy.

I pointed my canoe towards him, dipping my oar into the water with determination, whilst balancing my harpoon at the ready, ever so carefully.

Then his one good eye caught mine, and his feathers ruffled in defiance. I rowed harder, forthwith...

Moby raised his wings and hissed at me, and as I lifted my great metal spear to inflict a mortal wound, by happenstance my Smartphone made that familiar sound - I had a new Facebook update to respond to. I dropped the harpoon into the canoe immediately...

Throwing some breadcrumbs to distract the albino duck, I responded to the update, then turned my steely gaze back towards the fowl foul I needed to kill, to avenge my Pappy.

But I was too late. He was gone.

We'll meet again duck.

We will meet again...

The End.

It's A Cake-Walk?

What kind of crazy old saying is THAT? Who walks on cakes??

With icing, a cake-walk would be a bloody mess, and never mind that if the cake is moist, you'll just sink right in!

May as well be trying to skate on quicksand, if you're going to go walking around on cakes...

Crazy old sayings...

My Real Estate Column Returns!

Well, technically it never went away, except for a brief period over the holidays when REM did a complete makeover of their website. It sure looks great now - check it out here!

Scroll down about halfway, and you'll see Columnists, which is where my latest is - if you happened to catch it before the posts briefly disappeared, it was about my lack of luck in picking out reliable cars.

You can also just go straight to that here.

Personally, I like the changes - and if you happen to BE in real estate, there's plenty of other resources there online as well, from actual experts :-)

Enjoy! This year will be bringing changes to my own online presences, so this is a good way to kick things off!

Chicken Scratch

(posted by weekend guest blogger Slacker D. Chicken...)

Well, apparently this is NOT the shortcut to the skate park...

My apologies, kind sir, might you be able to direct me...

Why, yes, I am the same colour as a banan........

Move aside, move aside, chicken coming through!!!!

Cluck for now~~~~

What a way to start off 2015!!

I bought a Lotto 6-49 for the New Year's Eve draw, and when I checked it in at the gas station yesterday - WE WON!!!

Which was surprising, because when I checked the numbers at home, we didn't match a single one. But when the cashier ran it through the machine, it gave out the automated celebratory winner's cheer!

I was paid right on the spot, which felt great. I ran back to the car, waving the money in the air, with one heck of a pep in my step, I might add.

However, later that night, Mrs. That Dan Guy started to get a sore throat, so I had to go buy some Halls throat lozenges, which took away about 1/6 of the $10.00 cash payout. So we're still up, but a couple of cups of coffee at Tim Horton's and we're back in the red on this lottery thing.

Easy come, easy go...

Backup Resolutions Are Now In Effect...

OK, as expected, none of the resolutions we made a couple of days ago have been implemented, attempted, or achieved.

No need to panic though! We had backup resolutions, which now take effect immediately:

1) We will remain on the sofa as long as humanly possible, as long as bedsores don't set in.

2) We will continue to eat holiday baking and candy canes, even though we have weighed in to "start the year off right".

3) We will see more consecutive episodes of The Price Is Right than most blue-haired seniors do...

4) Our work on ensuring that gingerbread becomes a major food group will continue into further beta testing...

5) Unless I develop some sort of rash, I will continue to stretch my time with this pair of boxer shorts...

6) We will make more backup resolutions to have ready for an emergency, such as 2016....

Forgot to change my batteries...

Dang it!

Forgot to change the batteries in our wall clock, so it's still 2014 here!

Blast, I was SO looking forward to starting this year off right - oh well, later today we'll have a second chance!

Now, where is that battery charger..........

Hope you new year is a great one!!
