Heard it through the grapevine (go ahead, try not to hum it!!) recently that one of our nieces had her wisdom teeth removed the other day. That got me to thinking of when I had mine done, quite awhile back...

I had heard from everyone about how unpleasant a procedure it was, but to be honest, it was a walk in the park for me! Flossing was a bigger inconvenience.

It's probably due to my high threshhold for pain. Where other people might find it painful (or at the very least like a whopping hammer of thunder striking their face), I didn't even need sedation. Nor pain-killers after the fact. I do remember dozing off in the chair, entirely oblivious to the team of oral surgeons hard at work. I seem to remember giving them a nice tip afterwards, good help being hard to find even back then...

After the procedure, I walked home from the clinic, which if I recall was just short of 8 miles. It was a sunny day, and I did get held up briefing, shooting some hoops with a group of kids about half-way along the trip.

The post-operative experience was as painless as the work itself. I remember hearing from some others that had had their wisdom teeth removed before (wusses), and all they could go on about was the swelling, and more non-stop drooling than a senior citizen's centre during Golden Girls. I appeared almost under-nourished - no evidence at all of major dental work.

So, take heart, young niece! You may not be as tough as this old guy, but I guarantee, you'll live to see another day. Everyone is different when it comes to recuperation.

Schluter!!

Chow for now!

Oh man, I still need to get that done. =/

I'm like Grandpa. Novocaine doesn't work at all. I got 5 needles of it when they pulled my 4 teeth for my braces, and I felt everything. Nothing was numb.

You and me both. When the doctor froze my chest recently to nip off that bad piece of skin, I could feel when they cut the thing out.

Yowza!!!

Fortunately, nothing was lost upstairs when I had my own wisdom teeth removed!!

(be nice...)

Okay, hold it people!
First of all, Mr.That Dan Guy has NO threshold for pain, in fact, he has a low tolerance to low tolerance if you know what I mean. And, he had to have his parents drive him home as he was very out of it, incoherent and in more pain then one could have imagined. I have never seen a face so blown up, a man trying to vomit through a mouth with stitches, big eyes that said loud and clear "Help me, please help me!" as he held 2 ice bags up, one on either side of his face. It was sad! Pitiful really! So, for our niece who has just bravely undergone the wisdom teeth removal, we salute you! You probably came through it with more dignity then your Uncle. (Although he was quite adorable in a helpless kind of way)
Chow!

Hmmm.

Clearly some people have an entirely different recollection of events.

Isn't it a little early in the day for Peppermint Schnapps, Mrs. That Dan Guy??

I have a witness That Dan Guy, that also places you moaning in pain, your cheeks as big as a basketball. Your niece was much, much braver and her comment to you is HOW DZARE YOU!....schluter. Now, I on the other hand would like to tell you a TRUE story. I had all four of my wisdom teeth out when I was 14. All 4 were in impacted and I had them removed in the dentist's office. The next day I was out playing baseball....I have witnesses!!!! honest I do...

He also has a low threshold for the spirits too, I am told.

As for GG, well, without proof of your own entirely speculative theories, I choose to retain my own memories.

I may have been wrong about shooting hoops afterwards, though.

If memory properly serves me, I stopped and participated in a junior lightweight boxing match, and I have the trophy somewhere to prove it.

How's THAT for pain threshhold????

As for argy.ca, sheesh...you get a little tipsy ONCE, and make a few off-hand comments about a female, and some people never let you forget....

....oh I thought those comments were directed at me. Sorry about that.
I guess I can stop shaving my legs now.

RIP Brad Delp.

That one (depending on your perspective) is happily false.

Here's a link to an ABC news piece on the Wikipedia blunder...
