Winter has officially arrived, with our first major snowfall overnight. Volkswagen Beetles will have to wait until spring to be seen once again, and any gophers that hadn’t already decided to hibernate for the next few months will have to pretend to be housecats if they hope to survive the chilly stretch ahead (until about late August).

From our new vantage point, we are enjoying the start of our day by watching vehicles attempt to ascend the nominal upward incline of the roadway behind us. “Winter tires? Ha – it is to laugh!” appears to be the regret of  many cursing below us, waiting for elderly dog-walkers to stop and help them up the ice slide.
